Random happenings...

Life is sometimes perfectly unpredictable and random that the probabilities are unfathomable. I decided that I wanted to get pizza at Guidos while I was in town, and I thought I would head that way to pick up a movie and call it in on my way over. Apparently Guidos is a popular place on a saturday night, and when I called it in they told me it would be ready in an hour and fifteen minutes... I think most people would have been deterred, but I decided to head to the record exchange to kill some time instead of giving in to a less appealing alternative! I walked into the place and I saw the professor that I did my assistantship for (assistantship is another word for research slave, just to clarify!) I had full intentions to turn and try to duck from her eyesight, and hope to talk as low as possible at the counter so as to not draw attention to myself in hopes to avoid an awkward conversation, but sitting next to her was my absolute favorite professor from my program so I decided to suck it up and approach the both of them. The odds that I was there, and they were there at the exact time still blows me away! It would have been one thing if I still lived here, but I don't and this was the first time that I have been back in three months. Just crazy to have run into them in the 48 hours that I was here!

Out with the old... in with the new!

I drove my old car home today, and Sunday I will be saying my last goodbyes ( and not looking back!)Truth be told my old car lent for many a interesting/humorous stories, and let's not forget how much I got to sharpen my battery jumping skills! I certainly have had a good share of interesting stories because of it... honestly how many people can say that they jumped their car (all by themselves) more than once?! My favorite has to be the time that I left my car parked at work to drive up to the parent retreat and when I came back there was a trailer in the way so first I had to refill the oil from the pan that was holding the drippage under the car (that was back when it was leaking on average a quart or so while it was parked) then I had to pop the clutch and push my car back far enough so that I could get access to the battery, then FINALLY I was able to jump it using the work vehicle! It wouldn't have been so bad if no one had seen me... but not so much luck! It is a good thing that I have no problem whatsoever with finding the humor in my circumstances!...

Just keep swimming...

Work has been pretty hectic and crazy the last couple weeks. Almost every day proves that the only thing that you can predict is that nothing in this field of work is predictable.!Last week seemed so crazy it was almost comical! All in one week I had a client that bit someone, a client that got into a slapping/hitting fight, a client that stole the long distance code to make calls to a boyfriend, a parent that was angry with me and in session called me young lady, and I think the crowning event was when I found out that one of my clients decided to make out with another girl in the bathroom... (or maybe it was dealing with the other girl who isn't on my caseload after she decided to drink bathroom cleaner)... kind of a toss up?! I guess in times like those when you seem get everywhere but ahead it is important to remind myself that "I really do" like my job?! I finally got myself a new car, which was much needed and severely overdue, and I drove it home yesterday! It was funny because on my trip down there with my roommate I got really anxious about it, and almost sick to my stomach (I think it was mostly because it really didn't hit me that I actually bought a car until I was headed down there to drive it home.) Driving it home was interesting too because I was almost hyper vigilant... I guess once you have something that means something to you (and you had to pay a significant price for it) you tend to be more protective of it! Well back to work for me...

Where much is given much is required...

“I do feel that the Lord is gracious unto us, and that we should prize above all things upon the earth the words of eternal life that are given unto us. As long as we are governed by the Holy Spirit our minds are strengthened, and our faith is and will be increased. And we shall labor for the building up of the kingdom of God. Almighty Father, increase within us the powers of faith delivered to and possessed by the saints. Strengthen us by the by the memories of the glorious deliverances of the past, by the remembrance of the sacred covenants that thou hast made with us, so that, when evil overshadows us, when trouble encompasses us, when we pass through the valley of humiliation, we may not falter, may not doubt, but in the strength of the holy name may measure of our creation, and triumph gloriously, by the grace, over every besetting sin, be redeemed from every evil, and be numbered in the kingdom of heaven amongst those who shall dwell In thy presence forever.”

I had the opportunity to take one of my clients off campus on saturday, and it was fun. It was strange to have her with me at my house, and at times I felt like I wasn't doing the best at entertaining her, but overall it was a good time. I took her to a beauty school that was having an event with a fashion show, manicures, pedicures, 15 min up dos, and various classes. Her and I pretty much were the last ones to leave because we got our pedicures at the last minute (due to a rediculous line!) I didn't have time to do anything other than the pedicure, and she managed to get an up do, so when we got done swimming later she wanted to do my hair... of course I let her, so I decided to break out my camera and have some fun with it to take advantage of the sassy hair do...

Nothing like dreaming of californication in the spiritual living center on a thurday morning...

My job sometimes thouroughly entertains me... I laugh at the additions to my job description sometimes! For example our boy guitar/choir ensemble had a concert that they put on for us this morning, and they asked staff to attend. Our spirtual living centers are pretty much set up exactly like chapels, so seeing guitars and a drum set was a bit different. They started out singing a modified choir version of a popular blink 182 song... and I couldn't help but have a GIANT grin on my face. After that they sang a few more typical choir performanc type songs, then graduated into the Red hot chil peppers renditions. I just don't know if it gets any better than watching a group of 16-17yr old boys singing Californication in a spirtual living center...

Who would have thought that Jesus would make an appearance at the Gallivan center...

In general people watching is my favorite past time because people are just plain fascinating. I sat down tonight to watch the live free entertainment, and happened to sit next to a man that appeared homeless who was visibly intoxicated. Here is a description to help paint a picture: he was medium height, very thin wearing a white veterans t-shirt and a pair of jean shorts. He had a beard long hair and a black eye. He was wearing a hat and tucked behind his ear was an unsmoked cigarette. In his pocket was a half drank bottle of what appeared to be lime coke?! He turned to me and said well hello lady, how are you. I smiled and said fine thank you. He told me that he liked my smile, and that I should keep it. I told him that I would try. He said something about putting the smile on my face, then he asked if I knew who he was. I said no, and he told me that he was Jesus. I looked at him and told him that it was a pleasure to meet him. He turned to me a few seconds later and asked if I knew who he was again, and I told him that yes I did, he was Jesus, because he had already told me. The focus was then turned to the music being played on stage, and Jesus forgot all about me and my smile. Then he stumbled a few feet away and laid down on the grass to pass out/fall asleep. When my friend came and sat down I made sure that he knew that he now sat where Jesus had just sat!

I will never be a "yes" girl

I had a good conversation with some friends tonight about my surrounding cultures ideals about dating and marriage; and came to the conclusion that I am surrounded by men that want "yes" girls... (the kind of girls that have no strong opinions or thoughts of their own, and simply agree and mold their thoughts and opinions depending on who they are with...oh and that are completely helpless and need to be taken care of, can't forget that!) The problem with that is that I AM NOT, nor ever will I be a "yes" girl! My friend had a guy that she worked with say that she was too into her career, and that she was too independent, and that men don't like girls like that...statements like those drive me crazy! I don't know why men expect women to sit around waiting to be taken care of... uh no thanks! I guess I have never thought of marriage as an institution to be cared for... rather than be cared about. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that there aren't give and takes in marriage, but I am prepared and expect to do as much giving as I do recieving. Maybe that is why the divorce rate in our country is so high...eventually women realize that they don't NEED men like they were brainwashed into believing from when they were little girls, and when they realize that, they also realize that they deserve more than a husband that expects them to be a "yes" girl!
